Doctor Appointment Results and a hint of Voodoo

So last night I had a meeting with my Panhellenic group and at the end of it one of the ladies told me about an old wives tale she does on her students. (she teaches parenting in high school) She told me that it would predict the sex of my baby and for the most part it has been very accurate. So I am a very open minded person and game for anything; I said bring on the Voodoo.

So here I am sitting at the table with 7 pairs of eyes watching me and waiting for the big announcement...will it be a girl or will it be a boy. She took a piece of string and looped it through a sewing needle. She then took the needle and stuck it into the eraser end of a pencil. (which appropriately had black cats all over...voodoo I say). I stretched my right arm out on the table with my palm facing up. She then held the string, needle, pencil contraption just below my wrist. All of sudden it started going back and forth which in voodoo language means it will be a boy. If it had made circles it would have been a girl. So when I got home I told Clay we are having a boy because a nice lady did voodoo on me. (he was not too big of a believer) HEHE

This morning I had my 10.5 week appointment with Dr. Richards. It was so fast and easy I was shocked. I did not even have to disrobe. I found out I have lost 12 pounds since my 6 week appointment....that might have something to do with throwing up for 3 weeks straight. My doctor told me I was forgiven since I was soo sick; but that I can't lose anymore weight.

He then used this little contraption that fit in the palm of his hand to listen for the baby's heartbeat. It took awhile to find...(NERVOUS WRECK)...but then we heard it. It was just like a blup, blup, blup, blup, but SUPER FAST. He told me that the baby has a heart rate of over 160. Which in some voodoo beliefs...that means it is a girl, contradictory to what I heard the night before. So I just left feeling more confused than anything. I guess that will teach me not to believe in old wives' tales.

We go back on the 12 of February for our 14.5 week appointment. I can't wait to see how much has changed in my body. Clay and I have to make the decision over the next week to do the test to let us know the chances of down syndrome in our future child...what has anyone else done on this test? Just curious.

Month Three has started off with the THREE Cs

Congestion, constipation, & crabbiness..."Oh My" that line is so true. I have heard my friends tell me that during my pregnancy I will have a head cold during a portion of it. I have learned this is a lovely side effect of pregnancy where my mucus membranes are swelling causing all kinds of congestion. Clay has even commented on how much I am snoring now AND I NEVER SNORE!!! I have bought myself some saline nose spray and a humidifier for the room. Thank god they make Kleenex with lotion to keep my nose nice and soft.

Now for anyone who knows me on a very personal level...they know I am a HIGH FIBER diet kind of gal. Thank you to some wonderful family genes I have been forced into this lifestyle. Doctors tell us that most women our age need to have about 25-30 grams of fiber per day in order to keep a healthy active colon. Well they need to put a disclaimer out there that if you are pregnant; you might want to double that. Now...keep in mind upping your fiber can have some not so lovely side effects that can leave you in a very embarrassing moments; but if it keeps you away from the dreaded hemorrhoids...I say bring on the fiber. (remember ladies as you increase your fiber you also have to increase your water intake)

So just call me Mrs. Crabby. I am starting to notice that I am getting cranky faster and faster these days. I am not sure if it is because my hormones are just so out of whack or I am just starting to physically not be comfortable in my own body. Whatever the reason is I want to go on record and apologize ahead of time to anyone that I might snap at over the duration of my pregnancy. I especially want my husband to know how much I love and appreciate him and that when Mrs. Crabby comes is not really the woman he fell in love with; it is the body snatcher of the unborn offspring.

Were getting a Crib--FREE

So Clay and I are feeling truly blessed today because we are going to be getting a donated crib from his Aunt & Uncle in college Station. I never realized how expensive baby furniture is and the one I have always had my heart set on cost almost $300. This crib is very similar and FREE!!! SO THANK YOU FAMILY!!!

I think we will be able to find some great furniture that will match this piece because of the color of the wood. So even though we are still early on in the process...we are really feeling excited.

I have never suffered from having severe headaches but ever since this baby has started developing in my belly...I can barely stand it. The light hurts my eyes, the smallest sounds, and even when I take steps to walk my head pounds. I feel at times I am suffering from a horrible hangover.

I did buy an eye pillow from Orgins that I would recommend to any pregnant lady out there that came seem to beat the headaches. It does not cure them but it sure does help the relaxation process.

I have been taking Tylenol but that even has not seemed to be a true match against the pulsating throbbing occurring in my skull.

Does anyone have any advice on what has worked for them with the headaches? How long will these things last? Maybe I could just wear my sunglasses at work all day and only drive when it is dark. JK

Back at Work

So I really was spoiled over the past 16 days with being off work. I finally feel that I am totally done with the worst part of the all day sickness...but the need for a nap is overwhelming. While I was on vacation I was able to nap whenever I wanted to. Two hours in the morning and Two hours in the afternoon; I was in heaven. However, that has all changed today. This has been the longest day I have had and unfortunately I can't just lay under my desk without my boss giving me the "What the hell" look.

So I am looking forward to driving home and crawling my bed for a short siesta. Everyone is telling me that I will have more energy in the near future and I am anxiously awaiting those days. We will be going back to the doctor on the 15th and I am hoping we will see even more development in our child. I have been reading these books I got for Christmas that tell me what is happening each day of my baby's life...WEIRD. I mean last night I learned that the surface layer of my baby's brain is forming and now it has a full upper lip. It is so can they even know that.

I have also been asked by some if I think it is a boy or a girl. I am not really sure if I am feeling either way at this point. I know that I keep referring to the baby as "him" but I also own 3 male cats and the 1 female we have; I call her a "him". I am excited to find out in a few months what the sex of the baby will be. Either way I will welcome my Violet or Weldon with an open heart.
